Operation Report October 2011

During the month of October 2011 there were 130 flight operations at our airport.  There were 10 medivac operations during October 2011.  This represents a somewhat atypical October pattern.

October 16th of this year was a marvelous occasion for all of us that are part of flying, our airport and aviation in general.  On October 15th, EAA chapters in Redding, Santa Rosa, and Vacaville all held Young Eagles events.  This is giving kids 7 to 17 their first ride in an airplane.  On the afternoon of the 15th, many of the pilots who participated in the flying of kids all converged on Chico.  As a group we attended a tour of the Sierra Nevada brewery.  After the tour we all dined together, and then those who had flown Chico spent the night at the Holiday Inn.  The next day our pilots at Rancho Tehama became hosts to the group.

Sunday morning the 16th, we began getting aircraft arrivals as early as 10:00AM.  Our local pilots hosted a BBQ and fly-in which eventually included 23 aircraft and over 60 people visiting the Ranch.  To say that a good time was had by all would be an understatement.  We opened our hangars so that others could see what life at Rancho Tehama’s airport is like.  Ron and Sue Gullickson hosted the BBQ at their hangar, and a wonderful spread was available for everyone attending.  Finally, after all the donations were counted and all the expenses covered the Airport Community donated $25 to the Community Foundation.  Many folks who had never been to Rancho Tehama left with a very positive impression.

Winter is coming, and we are getting the airport ready for the cold and rain.  The fog coating of the runway is scheduled for Thursday the 10th, weather permitting.  With the recent rains, we are once again the spraying business.  I think all of us are happy to have had a very successful year at the airport.
